ABOUT ABOUT

Join Gregory Heller, author of Ed Bacon: Planning Politics and the Building of Modern Philadelphia, for a special walking tour of the historic Society Hill neighborhood. One of the nation’s first urban renewal projects to embrace historic preservation, Society Hill is an important case study of adaptive reuse, public-private partnerships, and urban revitalization. The neighborhood includes numerous 18th century houses, modern infill development, and the I.M. Pei-designed Society Hill Towers, interwoven with a system of pedestrian greenways installed in the 1960s as part of the urban renewal program. Today Society Hill is one of Philadelphia’s most affluent neighborhoods.

The program is in partnership with the American Planning Association, Pennsylvania Chapter, 2014 State Annual Conference, and Econsult Solutions Inc. of Philadelphia. Space is limited, advanced registration required. Tour leaves from the lobby of the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel. There will be a book signing after the tour.
